Rough Style Text Tutorial

Apply a roughed in text can be useful for adding style to any font. In this tutorial, we'll follow a simple step-by-step procedure in order to take any style of text and give it a roughed or cracked look. The choice of font doesn't matter, as the steps below will apply to all types of font.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Open a new document in Photoshop.

2. Use the Type Tool and create some text. For example, type "Crumbled".



3. Right click the "Crumbled" text layer and select "Rasterize Type"

4. Use the "Magic Wand" tool and select the "Crumbled" text.

5. Using the shortcut key "Q", this will cause you to go into Quick Mask Mode.

6. Goto Filter -> Pixelate -> Crystalized. Choose a Cell Size depending on the size of the text. Click OK.

7. Press "CTRL + I" to invert the selected mask.

8. Click the shortcut key "Q" again, this will take you out of Quick Mask Mode.

9. Now click the "Delete" key. You should now how your crumbled text effect.
